In north-central Alabama, roughly 65 miles northwest of Birmingham on the picturesque shores of Smith Lake sits Hidden Cove RV Resort. Part of the Thousand Trails system this RV park has the perfect combination of tranquility, amenities, and area attractions to satisfy nearly anyone.

The campground has 151 campsites, bathhouses, laundry facilities, a swimming pool, playgrounds, a clubhouse, boat ramp and dock, and an incredible lake swimming area.

Loop A (the older section) has 21 full hook-up 30-amp and 41 full hook-up 50-amp service sites. However nearly all the 50-amp sites in loop A are annual sites. Loop B is the newer section and has 80 full hook-up 50-amp service sites and roughly a third are pull throughs. Although the sites are gravel, they are large and well maintained. Backing large rigs into them is not an issue with the wide roads and large sites.

There is no cable TV service, but several local channels are available with the aid of an antenna. WIFI is available for purchase on daily, weekly, or monthly rates but the service is spotty depending on where you are setup.

Smith Lake is a man-made reservoir that is the deepest (and cleanest) lake in Alabama. It was formed in 1961 with the completion of the Lewis Smith Dam which was constructed by Alabama Power Company to produce hydroelectric power for the area.
While in the area its definitely worth the drive to the Clarkson Covered Bridge and the Natural Bridge Park. The Clarkson Covered Bridge was originally constructed in 1904 and is on the National Registry of Historic Places. There is no admission fee and it’s a great place to enjoy a picnic lunch.

The Natural Bridge is a natural rock formation that is about 150 feet long and 60 feet high. The hiking is not difficult, and they have benches along the trails to rest. The tree canopy keeps the summer heat at bay. There is a modest entry fee ($3.50 for adults and $2.50 for children). We recommend that you wear comfortable walking shoes when you visit.

The campground is absolutely beautiful, and we enjoyed our time there. The camp hosts were friendly and kept the grounds and bath houses very clean. We spent hours just relaxing at the lake, there are rock “tanning ledges” below the observation deck that we found amazing. Make sure you bring pool floats and a few drinks with you. You should also consider renting a pontoon boat during your stay as the lake is well suited to water skiing and tubing. There are several marinas on the lake that rent them (about $300 per day) but make reservations ahead of time as they rent out quickly.
Overall this RV park is wonderful, and we are looking forward to visiting it again soon. If you have any questions let us know.
